2023 Fantasy Football Rankings – Running Backs

Last Updated: August 22

Top 10 | 11-20 | 21-40 | 41-75 |

Other Positions: QB | RB | WR | TE | DraftSharks’ Projections
1. Christian McCaffrey, RB, 49ers. Bye: 9.

There was some question about Christian McCaffrey’s usage in San Francisco when the trade was made because the 49ers have so many weapons. McCaffrey was great when given a big workload, but the 49ers will limit him in less-important matchups.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,120 rushing yards. 89 catches. 800 receiving yards. 14 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 276.

2. Nick Chubb, RB, Browns. Bye: 5.

Nick Chubb is extremely talented, and his reception totals will rise this year because Kareem Hunt is gone.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,660 rushing yards. 32 catches. 260 receiving yards. 14 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 276.

3. Tony Pollard, RB, Cowboys. Bye: 7.

Tony Pollard should continue to see a larger workload, especially with Ezekiel Elliott gone. He’ll be a top-five running back, given that the Cowboys didn’t find competition in the draft.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,270 rushing yards. 48 catches. 390 receiving yards. 14 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 250.

4. Austin Ekeler, RB, Chargers. Bye: 5.

Austin Ekeler played all 17 games last year. He caught more than 100 passes and scored 18 touchdowns in the process. I’d expect some regression to the mean with the receivers expected to play more next year.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 900 rushing yards. 85 catches. 650 receiving yards. 15 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 245.

5. Saquon Barkley, RB, Giants. Bye: 13.

Saquon Barkley finally overcame his ACL tear last year and had a terrific season. There’s no reason to think that he would regress.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,290 rushing yards. 55 catches. 420 receiving yards. 12 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 243.

6. Derrick Henry, RB, Titans. Bye: 7.

Derrick Henry rebounded well off an injury, but didn’t have the offensive line play in front of him to have a huge year. A nice development, however, was his increased involvement in the passing game.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,400 rushing yards. 28 catches. 240 receiving yards. 13 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 242.

7. Bijan Robinson, RB, Falcons. Bye: 11.

Bijan Robinson was widely considered to be the top prospect in the 2023 NFL Draft class. He has Saquon Barkley-type ability, and he will have a huge season for the Falcons, both as a runner and a receiver out of the backfield.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,230 rushing yards. 55 catches. 400 receiving yards. 11 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 229.

8. Josh Jacobs, RB, Raiders. Bye: 13.

Josh Jacobs led the NFL in rushing last year. He was also a big factor as a receiver, catching 53 passes. He figures to be in for another huge year.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,350 rushing yards. 38 catches. 260 receiving yards. 10 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 221.

9. Jonathan Taylor, RB, Colts. Bye: 11.

The Colts have said that they don’t know when Jonathan Taylor will return from his ankle injury – the same ankle that gave him issues in 2022. It could be possible that Taylor is using this as an excuse to remain away from the team because he is disgruntled with his contract situation. Either way, it’s worrisome.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 1,170 rushing yards. 38 catches. 270 receiving yards. 11 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 210.

10. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Lions. Bye: 9.

I think the case can be made for Jahmyr Gibbs to be drafted ahead of Bijan Robinson, given that he’ll be running behind one of the top three offensive lines in the NFL. I think I’d still go with Robinson, but it’s close. Update: Gibbs has been taking reps with the first-team offense. David Montgomery is out with a leg injury, so Gibbs is making the most out of his opportunity.

Projected 2023 Fantasy Stats: 900 rushing yards. 59 catches. 510 receiving yards. 8 total TDs.
Projected 2023 Fantasy Points: 204.
