Super Bowl LVII: Chiefs-Eagles Showdown

I can no longer post any lineups, per DraftKings rules, but I will list some of my favorite players for this slate (in price order)…

Top Captains: Jalen Hurts (16800), Travis Kelce (15900), A.J. Brown (13800). Jalen Hurts and Patrick Mahomes are close in salary, yet I like Hurts a lot more because of his rushing upside. The Eagles have a tight end-funnel pass defense, and Travis Kelce often comes up big in nationally televised games. A.J. Brown is also too close to Devonta Smith in salary, yet he projects much better.

Top Spend-Up FLEX (in addition to Top Captains): Patrick Mahomes (11000), Isiah Pacheco (7200). Though I like Hurts much more as a captain, I will gladly play Mahomes at flex. … Isiah Pacheco is catching passes now? He saw six targets in the AFC Championship. It appears as though he has taken over as Kansas City’s every-down back, making him a great value at $7,200.

Top Value: Dallas Goedert (6400), Kadarius Toney (4400). Dallas Goedert being only $200 more than Marquez Valdes-Scantling is insane. Kadarius Toney is a great value as well, assuming he plays.

Top Punt Play: Justin Watson (2000). If Kansas City’s receivers can’t return from injury – Mecole Hardman is out – Justin Watson will look very interesting at $2,000.

Player to Avoid: Jerick McKinnon (6800), Marquez Valdes-Scantling (6200). Jerick McKinnon’s receiving work has been stolen, apparently. … Marquez Valdes-Scantling had done nothing all year, so he’s suddenly a great play? I don’t buy it.

Week 21: Main Slate

I can no longer post any lineups, per DraftKings rules, but I will list some of my player pool for this slate (in price order)…

Top Quarterbacks: Jalen Hurts (7200), Joe Burrow (6800).

Rather than barely touch on every player on this list, I’ll discuss my top plays at each position.

Jalen Hurts, $7,200: Jalen Hurts’ mobility will be enormous against San Francisco’s pass rush. He’ll also be able to expose the weak 49er cornerbacks.

Joe Burrow, $6,800: The Chiefs blitz far too often for Joe Burrow, who is the best quarterback against the blitz.

Top Running Backs: Christian McCaffrey (8000), Joe Mixon (6500), Jerick McKinnon (5400), Samaje Perine (4500).

Christian McCaffrey, $8,000: Christian McCaffrey has a tough matchup, but he has a high floor because of his receiving ability.

Joe Mixon, $6,500: The Chiefs are weak to the run, so Joe Mixon seems like a great play this week.

Jerick McKinnon, $5,400: I’ve come around to playing Jerick McKinnon, who will need to be used more this week if the Chiefs are trailing.

Samaje Perine, $4,500: A fine punt play. The Chiefs struggle against receiving backs.

Top Wide Receivers: Ja’Marr Chase (7600), A.J. Brown (7000), DeVonta Smith (6800), Deebo Samuel (5700), Tee Higgins (5400), Tyler Boyd (3800), Kadarius Toney (3700).

Ja’Marr Chase, $7,600: Ja’Marr Chase is an amazing play at his price.

A.J. Brown, $7,000: People may not play A.J. Brown because he has a red “Q” next to his name. I will play him.

DeVonta Smith, $6,800: DeVonta Smith is on fire, and he has an easy matchup.

Deebo Samuel, $5,700: The Eagles tend to allow chunks of yardage to slot receivers. The 49ers rotate their slot players, but Deebo Samuel sees plenty of action there.

Tee Higgins, $5,400: Tee Higgins has struggled since the Damar Hamlin event. Perhaps this will be the week he rebounds.

Tyler Boyd, $3,800: The Chiefs are very weak to slot receivers.

Kadarius Toney, $3,700: Kadarius Toney saw seven targets last week. He plays close to the line of scrimmage, which favors him with an injured quarterback.

Top Tight Ends: Travis Kelce (7800), George Kittle (5200).

Travis Kelce, $7,800: The Bengals struggle against tight ends, and Patrick Mahomes will be targeting his safety valve often because of his injury.

George Kittle, $5,200: George Kittle has dominated the Eagles in recent matchups.

Honestly, you can play all four tight ends, but Kelce and Kittle are my favorites, even when factoring in salary.

Top Defenses: Eagles (2800), Bengals (2300).

Eagles, $2,800: Philadelphia’s elite defensive line will give Brock Purdy some major problems.

Bengals, $2,300: Patrick Mahomes is playing on one leg, so Cincinnati’s great pass rush should be able to smother him.

Players to Avoid: Isiah Pacheco (5300), Miles Sanders (5200), Brandon Aiyuk (4400). The Bengals have been stout against the run since their two defensive tackles returned from injury. … No team is better versus running backs than the 49ers. … Brandon Aiyuk will not get open versus Philadelphia’s shutdown cornerbacks.
