  • Brock Bowers 2024 Preview
    By Charlie Campbell

Career Recap: In the Bulldogs’ back-to-back National Championship seasons, Bowers was the most dangerous and effective weapon on their offense. While many schools are led by a star quarterback, running back or wide receiver, Bowers was clearly the most talented player on the Georgia scoring attack over the past two year. He was a freshman sensation in 2021, hauling in 56 catches for 882 yards and 13 touchdowns. In 2022, Bowers recorded 63 receptions for 942 yards and seven scores. He also took nine carries for 109 yards – 12.1 average – and three touchdowns.

2023 Season Outlook: There are not many great linebackers or safeties on the Georgia schedule. The toughest competition for Bowers could come in the outings against South Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky and Ole Miss.

Skill-Set Summary: Over the past couple of seasons, the Georgia tight end room was known as being supremely talented with a trio of Bowers, Darnell Washington and Arik Gilbert. Washington and Gilbert would have been starters at most schools, but with Bowers in Athens, they had to settle for backup roles. Bowers was a dynamic force and clutch playmaker who was a vital contributor to the back-to-back National Championships.

Bowers has the ability to be a potential Pro Bowl tight end in the NFL while serving as a three-down starter and a difference-maker. He is a phenomenal receiving tight end who is an extremely difficult player to cover. Bowers is a very good route runner who is skilled at finding the soft spot in zone coverage and presenting a big target for his quarterback. While Bowers does not have crazy speed or freak athleticism like a Kyle Pitts, Bowers is fantastic at winning contested catches by using his size to gain better position. With his leaping ability, Bowers highpoints balls naturally and is very dangerous on 50-50 passes. For a big body, Bowers displays excellent ball adjustment skills, showing a natural ability to make difficult catches by contorting his frame. He will be a tremendous red-zone weapon in the NFL. Bowers has strong hands and is very reliable. When his quarterback is in trouble, Bowers is a great asset for them to throw the ball up to him knowing he will probably generate a reception or an incompletion.

While Bowers is not a burner, he has a second gear in the open field and can run away from defenders. Bowers is a quick tight end who gets downfield and is smooth through his route. Thanks to his speed, athleticism and strength, Bowers is dangerous after the catch to rip off yards and turn routine catches into big plays.

In blocking, Bowers is not a typical receiving tight end. Many receiving tight ends are disinterested and weak blockers, but that is not the case with Bowers. While Bowers is not going to dominate and overpower a defensive end, he will use his frame and strength to tie up defenders, and he often gets the job done. For many pro tight ends, just having the desire with an attitude to be a willing blocker is all teams need to function, and Bowers has that. That being said, he is impressive at hitting blocks at the second level, and in 2022, he sprung some big plays for Georgia by hitting blocks on linebackers and defensive backs on the perimeter. Bowers is a quality blocker to be a three-down starter as a pro.

In the NFL, Bowers could be an excellent starter who is similar to good pros like George Kittle or Zach Ertz.

2024 NFL Draft Expectations: Entering the 2023 season, Bowers looks like a safe first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
